CINEMA WORLD CUP
I grew up in a country full of football fanatics, yet I wasn’t interested in football. What did interest me about football though, was those international tournaments. Finally, I found a way to create my personal, biannual international film tournament: Cinema World Cup – my take on FIFA’s World Cup and UEFA’s Euro Cup. With this, I aimed to force myself to watch more international productions, discover cinemas of different countries, and melt that pile of unwatched DVDs and endless watchlists on IMDb or Letterboxd down. It started as a 16-country tournament in 2012, and in 2020 I raised the bar to include 32 countries.
Click on any edition to see the participant countries and films, winners and losers, brackets, and other fantasies. Don’t ask me about the rules though.
